“Every piece [Gillian] presents is a rich experience that takes the reader right into the scene, and leaves one with emotions that last. I look forward to what will certainly become a unique book with wide appeal.”

Chasing Cockatoos, a Kangaroo, and the Mysteries of Love

Narrative nonfiction manuscript. 78,104 words

A dreamy civil servant leaves the city to follow a square-jawed scientist she barely knows to a remote Australian island to save an endangered cockatoo. Struggling to maintain a sense of value without possessions, loved ones, or a job, she raises a kangaroo, befriends an echidna, fights a bushfire, a flood, and turns an implausible relationship into love.

Thirteen Blue Doors

Gillian volunteers to visit four men in maximum security prison. A decade of contact helps her survive when her beloved professor loses a fifth of his brain.

Rain Shadow Review Creative Writing Workshop

Newsletter

When the pandemic prevented Gillian from leading creative writing workshops in prison, she created The Rain Shadow Review Creative Writing Workshop Newsletter. Each monthly issue contains a poem and a prose piece from award-winning writers, Gillian's analyses, and a section on craft. It is mailed to prisoners and is available on the Rain Shadow Review website for anyone interested in improving their creative writing skills.
